Reveal some of this value.
Even virtually if that’s the first step.
Let members see what they’re getting, how proactive you are, reveal some of the operations behind the curtain by inviting them to some meetings.
Include them in idea generation meetings.
Sure, sometimes they’re going to waste time (like anyone does) focusing on the wrong thing or leading the conversation in the wrong direction. Everyone can.
I understand, right now, it feels a little radical. But the benefits outweigh this potential downside.
You’re going to have more engaged members. You’re going to retain more members. Humans desire to feel seen, heard, and understood.
At times you’ll be held accountable. This is good.
At worst, you’re going to get some feedback and ideas from perspectives you probably haven’t considered.
Is that so bad as not to give it a try at least once?
